It’s a play on the fact the Ethereum blockchain has several layers for transactions, such as L1 and L2.

Sloika is also commonly referred to a tasty layered puff pastry.

Sloika also can be easily pronounced by many cultures, including Japanese (スロイカ) and Chinese (思录卡).
